Excitement!

After we got home last night and Brandon and Emily left for their own house, it was about midnight. I had just gotten Kate to lay down, she was WIRED, and had taken my clothes off to crawl into bed, when my doorbell rang. At first I thought it was Brandon and Emily and maybe they had forgotten something, but I really didn't think they would ring my doorbell. Then I thought maybe it was a kid pranking us. And as I approached the door, my mind started to play tricks on me imaging the mass murderer waiting to grab me just as I opened the door. But when I opened it, there stood a police man. Of course my mind freaked out again thinking someone had died, but he said he was there to investigate the 911 call that had just been placed from our home. WHAT!!!???? (I knew the kids were all in bed so it wasn't them, and I sure didn't call.) Apparently our phone lines called 911 by themselves because there is water in the lines. He said that it had been happening a lot. But obviously the cops still have to check them out regardless of the time. My mom had been at my house earlier and told me that our phones weren't working. I'd say they weren't! If they can call the cops all by themselves! It added a bit of excitement to our night.

Crazy, that's one of my biggest fears, having a policeman show up at my door. That is some excitement, though, as if you needed it.

Jennifer-I think the water is from the crazy amount of snow we got here over the weekend. It has all melted now, but apparently water can get into the lines ( I think through the ground). I think you're safe with the drop the phone in the sink scenario. :)

Hey, I wish I could say that having the cops show up at the door b/c of a 911 call was foreign to me. On one of our trips to Idaho, Emma dialed 911 while my mom was holding her. They couldn't get through to us (b/c she kept tying up the line), so they came out to the house to check it out. As if that weren't enough, just this past weekend, Lou got a call from 911 asking if everything was okay. I guess Damian had learned about 911 at school and thought he'd try it out. About five minutes later, and just after I had explained to him how to appropriately use 911 or NOT use it, there was a heavy rap at the door. It was so aggressive, I was wondering who it could be when it hit me--it was the cops. And sure enough, I opened the door to 2 cops responding to Damian's call. Pretty embarrassing, but hopefully a lesson to my kids not to call. I don't know, I fear it was exciting enough to them to attempt it again. So. . .my stories don't beat yours, but it reminded me of them. Sorry for the lengthy comment!!

Angela, your boys will never cease to crack me up. I am sure it's not funny to you at the time, but they are HILARIOUS little buggers. Here's hoping they don't call again, eh?
