What'd you just say?!

While reading my friend Camille's blog and her musings over what to teach their son to call his personal parts, I was reminded of a funny story from Carter. I just had to write it down so we'd remember forever. I know he'll get a kick out of it someday.

Carter used to walk around singing a song and I thought he was saying, "Shake your penis, shake your penis." The first time I heard him say that I flipped my head around and asked (okay demanded) "What'd you just say?!" I had NO idea where he had heard such a thing and kept scolding him and telling him that it was an inappropriate song. I'd get angry at him every time he sang it, and every time he'd kind of look at me funny.

Well, one day, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Disney came on t.v. and I heard them singing, "Shake Shake Shake your peanut, shake your peanut." (I think it was a scene with an elephant or something.). "PEANUT" folks, not penis! It was completely innocent and a silly song. (Well, I think it's innocent. I can just imagine the hysterical laughter of the guys when they made this little jingle up.)

Poor Carter, I probably traumatized him from ever saying the word peanut again. I guess this is a lesson that we shouldn't always jump to the conclusion that our kids are being naughty.

This is the only video of the song I could find. Now that you've heard it yourself, what do you think? Innocent or hidden innuendo?

Before I read your post I would of found it completely innocent! But now I have been corrupted by your conclusion jumping and can no longer watch this through innocent eyes. ;)

I have no idea, but it is halarious! I am glad you saw the show, just to set the record strait. Poor little guy!

I *guess* it's innocent... hmmm.

This will be a funny memory a few years from now. I have a calendar filled with funny and eyebrow-raising things the Sweet Girl said when she was little.

Good times... :-)and they pass all too quickly!

Poor little Carter.

Did you see that I commented on Emily's blog about the mums?

ok, that was simply so funny!!!! as a mom that has always used the proper termfor the boy parts--that is a difficult line to cross b/c boys will be boys and just want to say that most splendid of all words--ah discretion!
but that is seriously so very funny!

Thanks so much. I will now be singing "Shake your penis, shake your penis" for the rest of the day. I'll be sure to stop before my husband comes home.

I can totally relate...I "hear" my kids swear all the time in the things that I think they are saying! I guess we just have to not react until we hear it a dozen times and make sure they are not saying what we think they are saying!

I am convinced that all "creators" of children's shows are at heart, dirty old men. I see so much innuendo in everything. Or wait. Maybe it's just me. With my mind in the gutter!

Ahh to be a Mother of a boy. Who hasn't gotten confused with the slurred speach of a little boy saying "peanut". We have too!! LOL!

LOL...I'm glad you said at the end, "Innocent or hidden innuendo?" because it makes us know that you're not naive!

You know....there have been KNOWN mishaps in cartoon land. Remember The Little Mermaid? Oh man...

Anyway, now I will never look at this the same! It's too bad. Hopefully the poor person who created the song and music was completely innocent....hopefully.

This one is embarassing, because I do have a some kind of issue with calling body parts by their real name.....so all my boys have "peanuts" (I thought it was close enough--without really going there, ya know?!). SO that song takes on a different meaning around here. Trying not to laugh so hard as I attempt to type this! shake your peanut! bwahahahahahaha

really---i told them from the time they were 2, that they had a 'peanut'.....and girls have ding-dongs. and now I'll never be able to show my face in bloggy public again. Laughing so hard I'm really crying now!

Hey, I totally hear you on this one. We had the exact same reaction to this song. We just shared the story with my parents this last weekend of the first time Kayson started singing this song at the dinner table. Kade about blew up until I told him what Kayson was really singing. But, it still gets us every time he sings it (which last time was at CAL Ranch when he found a bag of peanuts in the checkout line) Kade about died laughing knowing what he was saying, but thinking probably no one else did! I have to wonder about who wrote this song for sure though:)

So, I've been without internet for a week, and I'm having a blast catching up on all the blogs I've missed! You had already shared this story with me, but reading it again had me laughing again, especially after watching that video! sure makes you wonder!
