Alyssa has been toying with the idea of donating her hair to Locks of Love for a little while. The teacher she had for 1st and 2nd grade has breast cancer and is currently undergoing chemo, so this is a big topic at her school. This was a BIG deal for her, she doesn't take easily to her hair getting cut, as you may remember. She and a friend both decided they were going to go through with it, so today was Alyssa's big day.
Before the cut Alyssa's hair was to her waist! (In this picture her hair could almost rival Cousin It's.)
No turning back now! She cut off 10 inches.
My sister (the stylist) with her purple extensions, and Alyssa's new do.
So cute from behind! I love it! Can you believe that even with 10 inches off, her hair still isn't even that short? This kid has a head full of hair!!!
Look at all that beautiful hair that I just know someone will love.
Alyssa, I am SO proud of you. Cutting your hair and donating it was just such a cool thing today. And something you will always remember. What a great example you are. And you look beautiful!
*As for an update on Kate, she went back to the doctor and he gave her another breathing treatment b/c her lungs still don't sound right and she still labors a little with her breathing. (Nothing like Sunday though.) He sent us home with our own nebulizer, prescribed steroids, and allergy meds. He does think it is an asthma thing going on, but he's not sure if it is allergy related or a reaction to a viral thing she's got going on. (I'm HOPING for the latter.) But I think with having the nebulizer at home, she's on her way to recovery.

Wow! I cannot believe how long her hair is after the cut!
Good Job Alyssa! I think Locks of Love is a wonderful program.
SO glad that Kate is doing better!
Way to go Alyssa!!! That is so neat. I can't believe how much hair she had!!! And it looks like the side-swoop bangs are working :)
She still had long hair, even after Locks of Love!
Way to go, Alyssa! We're all jealous of your beautiful hair. Before AND after! :-) Beautiful hair, beautiful heart. What a nice thing for you to do.
Her hair looks so cute! Love the little flips :-) Katie has donated twice to Locks of Love. Her hair grows so fast she just might be a perpetual donater.
Alyssa looks great!!! What a cute cut.
And glad to hear Kate is doing better. You should go and read by cousin's blog - The Barros Family -their Mother's Day was very similar to yours, kind of crazy.
That is so amazing and wonderful. I cannot believe how long her hair still is and still so cute!!!!
I sure hope that all is better with Kate - What a worry and what a blessing to have so many looking out for you during this. I sure hope that things get figured out soon!!!
Again, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the hair!! What a mature and thoughtful girl. She looks so beautiful. Glad to hear Kate's improving. I took Truman to the doctor yesterday and he said, "You're the second Manwarings I've seen in an hour."
that is such a cool thing! way to go alyssa! and her new cut looks fabulous.
hope kate starts feeling/sounding better. that is NO FUN!
how brave! and selfless~tell her aunt nichole is so proud of her. even though she doesn't know me, someone is proud of her!
rock it alyssa!
i did the very same thing about a year and half ago....what a great cause for hair :)
and her new do is just so cute!
Glad to hear Kate is better...at least on the road to better.
Can't believe that girl's hair! Not that she cares what I think....but do think it looks SO GOOD! Love her new do! And what a great thing she did.
We think the hair looks sooooo cute!
Also at Easter there was a 3 yr old girl at church that swelled up really big. They took her to the doctor to make sure that she didn't have a spider bite (the black widows are all out in force here in Bakersfield). It turns out that she had pneumonia and had a hole in her lung. The swelling was air under her skin from breathing. The didn't dare life flight her because of the pressure changes. Her dad said it felt like rice crispies crunching around. So if she swells up have it checked.
Holy Hair! Good Job Alyssa!
Alyssa's hair IS cute. It really doesn't even look short! She had a LOT of hair, and someone will so appreciate it.
Onto Kate....miss Kate. I worry about her! I'm sure she's fine, but my mommy "worrydar" is on. I can't wait until it's all better.
Yea! Yea! Yea! for Alyssa! Love the haircut. Looks so cute and will be so much easier to take care of too. Lizzy did the same thing a few years ago. Sweet!
That is so scary! Carson does that to us every now and then, only he gets Croup! I love ER visits, especailly in the middle of the night! I hope you little lady is feeling better soon.
She is gorgeous--and is to be commended for giving so selflessly. That's incredible.
(p.s. I know a doctor who prescribes nebulizer treatments all the time. He says they work. Just so you know!)
Good Job Alyssa, I am so proud of you. What a great cause.
Her haircut is DARLING!! What a neat thing for her to do!
My hero!!! You're awesome Alyssa---and still have long hair! How'd you do that?!
