It's a Big Day

Today is bittersweet for me. Despite the facts that I took piano lessons for over 10 years, have a college degree in music ed., and taught lessons for nearly 10 years, I can not seem to get my act together enough to teach my own children. It's not a matter of "mom-doesn't-work-as-the-teacher". No, my kids LOVE to have their lessons and beg for them. It's more an issue of "mom-doesn't-want-to-right-now-we'll-get-to-it-later" and then later turns into to 6 weeks later. It's my fault, all my fault, that my kids don't play better. I have been having SUCH guilt over it. (Especially for Alyssa, she loves to play, and is quite good -she taught herself practically everything though.) I decided to let the guilt go, and sign her up with a real teacher. Today is the day. And although I am QUITE disappointed in myself -feels like I failed a bit- (and a little sick that I'm paying someone else to do the same thing I used to get paid for) I am SO excited for her to get the attention she deserves. She's so excited she can hardly wait for 3:30 to get here.

Also, tonight is LOST!!! Love this show. I'm so excited it's back on, but very sad too as this is the final season. Boo-hoo!!

don't feel too guilty! sometimes it is just rough for mom too do lessons. i know that would NEVER be able to teach my own kids piano...and that is just b/c of my personality...but then agin, maybe we'll see.
and especially if alyssa is really loving piano, you *want* a teacher that will challenge her....think of it as a good thing! :)

Four things:
1. Love the header! I like how you extracted your family and put the heart behind. Too cute!
2. Yay for LOST. The girls are going to bed early tonight so momma can watch it without interruptions. :D
3. I understand the whole piano teacher thing. I've been totally annoyed with myself for not doing better with Lily's preschool. A lot of times I put it off because I simply don't want to do it. Don't feel bad about paying someone else for what you can do. Just consider it as a way to "simplify your life" Sometimes mommies just can't do everything, even if they are qualified to do it!
4. Here's a link for the ladies blog that I got the Round Up idea from. I thought you might like to see how it is REALLY supposed to be done! LOL! http://scrapbooklady.typepad.com/katie_the_scrapbook_lady/2010/02/roundup-done-for-january-2010.html

No need for guilt, now she will get taught no matter what(a reason to NOT feel guilty)! You gave her the talent already, what else does a mom need to do!

just stay motivated for the practicing. I really have to make sure I get violin practice on the schedule b/c before I know it, the day is gone and Reed hasn't practiced. BAD MOMMY!

Yea for music! No matter how, who, or, where. That's how important it is to us Music Ed Mommy's. Way to go Lene's for seeing her love of music and supporting it in the way that best fits your family's time and talents. :)

As for Lost...I'm so Lost. Can't watch that show, but I know you love it so have fun tonight!

My uncle was a church organist and knew how to play just about every instrument...but his kids? Not one of them is musical. I think for him it was part of his job...and he didn't want to do it at home. And for you, maybe because it's not your job, it's easy to procrastinate it.

And how did you get so many posts in one day?? Or rather...how did I get so behind so quickly??

Hey don't beat yourself up. Moms are busy. Just a fact of life. You will be there to be able to help her practice and cheer her on!!

I agree with Cherie. We moms can't do it all, no matter how talented we are, or even how much we WANT to.

You're a great mom, Elena. Your family is lucky and blessed to have you.

Don't feel guilty. You are a great mom and it will be fun to see what she learns from another teacher and then you can teach her extra things and be like the music Santa when you can...

So. . how are the lessons going now? It's hard to have the level of committment our parents had. I am amazed every day as I try to teach Gehrig, just how much my mom put into having us learn how to play the piano! It's hard to be that committed!
