A Snip Snip Here, A Snip Snip There...

Here a snip, there a snip, everywhere a snip snip.

Okay, I think sufficient enough time has passed for me to be able to post about our latest disaster. It happened just about a week ago and let me tell you, at the time, emotions were too raw in this house for it to be funny.

I had done Kate's hair in many little ponies across the front of her head. The hair do had been in a few days and Alyssa wanted to give Kate a "make over". (A game frequently played in this house.) She tried to take the elastics out, but they were snarled and weren't coming out easily. So.....she asked if she could please use the scissors to cut them out. (You see where this is going?)

I told her I'd rather she didn't because it's too easy to cut hair doing that. She begged and pleaded and promised she was old enough that she wouldn't cut any of Kate's hair. (And here is where I just should have put the STUPID (and by stupid I mean awesome) "Catching Fire" book down and gone and cut them myself.)

Next thing I know, Alyssa comes running into my room carrying a HANDFUL of hair. She was sobbing, and I was SICK. I'll admit, I snapped at her, causing more tears. Which in turn caused Jarom to snap because he was sick of the estrogen flood he was surrounded by.

THANK GOODNESS Kate has a thick full head of hair. We can pull her sides up on top of her head and we're able to hide most of the cuts. I think she got one full pony cut out and chunks of two others snipped as well. The picture below isn't even half of it. But like I said, we are able to cover it up, so a major disaster is only a minor disaster now.

Oh... Bless your heart. I feel your pain. I remember getting ready to take Callie when she was almost 2 years old for her photos of her baby curls and ran to do an errand to come home to Mimi thinking she was helping and cutting off all her baby curls..30 minutes before Callie's session without even asking!... Talk about estrogen flowing. To this day we have a very hard getting Callie to cut her hair.

It is a good thing Kate's is such a cutie....Well it does look like Alyssa got better as she went along.

I am sorry though, I know it is hard....

Nothing quite like that, but I do have a child who took the edge trimmer to his head in a small trail- twice!

My middle one has chopped her own hair a few times. It seems like it has to happen at least once in every family. I saw your coupon post I used to be into coupons a little bit and a great web site is pinchingyourpennies.com click on your state and most likely someone has posted all of albertson, and smiths sales and tell you what coupons to use where it is great and takes all the work out of it for you. They also have a web deals link that tells you when amazon.com has good sales. I always stock up on birthday presents. Good luck.

We feel your pain!

We've left the "I cut my own hair -- oops!" days behind. We've replaced them with being a teenager, going to the salon, and getting a cut and a style that canNOT be repeated at home.

We've been enduring tears and agony *every* morning since then. *Every* morning -- "What have I done? I look HORRIBLE!!!!!"

Hurry, hair! GROW! For the love of Pete (and our sanity...) GROW!!!!!

OH MAN!!!! I would have been livid. And yes, that would have caused more tears.....and yes that happens around here, and no I'm not proud of that. And poor Jerom, Steve feels his pain. I think that's one reason he says "no more kids" I don't think he could handle anymore estrogen.

Glad you can at least hide it and it will grow.

Oh yes.. nothing like that feeling when you realize if you'd just taken care of it yourself... love that feeling.

Essie never ONCE did her hair.

Gert... jeesh.... more times than I can count.

Oh, I am so sorry. Mayzie cut her own hair off at the scalp where the bangs go and a little down the side of her head. That little girl was SO obsessed with scissors. Snips in my handmade quilts, snips in the couch cushions, snips in her clothes, snips out of my scarves. I was always hiding the scissors, only to find little snips again later, and the scissors hidden in her room. At least it was an accident. All I can say for Mayzie is, at least she grew out of it and into being a really sweet girl. m ;) I hope Kate's hair is blessed with MUCH GROWTH this year! Poor girl. At least it's easily hidden!

Oh that is so so sad. But i am so glad that you are able to cover it up. I had my hair cute after Xan was born it was a long as it is now. She was only to cut it to my shoulders well she cut it up to my ears i couldn't even pull it back into a pony tail. There were strong words said and poor max had to hear about if for a year yes a year now the only person i let touch my hair is max because he knows how much i gripe about it so he is extra careful :)

child. scissors. hair. Never a good idea :-)

Unfortunatley, I have caused a few hair disasters on my own children. Like cutting Madalyn's bangs. I cut above my fingers instead of below...poor child!!

Considering that you were reading "Catching Fire" I am suprised things were not worse. That book was impossible to put down! Glad that was all you had to deal with and that it isn't too bad, thank heavens for thick hair.
