I'm a Real Runner (hardy-har-har)

Warning: Graphic picture with blood below. If you don't like blood, don't look. (It's really not that bad, but I thought I'd warn you none-the-less.)

As some of you may or may not know, I have been trying my hand (or legs) at running. My first goal is a 5K, and coming from somebody who can't even run a full mile without stopping, this is a lofty goal. I'm not going to lie, it has NOT been easy and I'm still not at my goal. But I am improving, slowly, and this is a good thing.

I hear (and see pics on facebook) tales of my runner friends. Blisters and lost toenails from marathons. I'm not so sure I'm made of that kind of material. I've been suffering from some pretty bad shin splints and its all I can do to limp my pathetic little 2 mile walk/jog home. (Some new shoes and shin exercises are helping with that though.)

Anyway, today, I got my first real "running battle wound" and now can say, "I'm a REAL runner!" This must be said w/Pinocchio's voice from Shrek. Okay not really, but it sure sounds good, and I did finish the run while bleeding to death. (Alright....I wasn't bleeding to death...but I was bleeding.)

Anywho...my oh-so-adorable-son, whom I love so much, but am DONE exercising with, ran me over with his bike. My knee jerk reaction to scream "Ouch, you dummy! Watch what you're doing!", I'm sure sounded oh so grown up to the landscaping crew that witnessed the whole scene. (And no, I don't call my kids dummies, it just flew out of my mouth from nowhere.)

Poor kid felt really bad as soon as he saw the blood. "Mommy, I'll get you a bandaid when we get home." Honestly, it didn't hurt all that bad, stung a little, but yep, I'm a "real" runner now!

Yikes!!!! Looks like a good battle scar from here. Running huh? Do you really hate yourself that much? I am NOT a runner, never have been, never will. Biking that is my ticket, maybe it might help till the shin slpints calm down. Whatever you decide just be careful, no more injuries, okay?!

Ouch. Who knew that it was blood that was required to make you "real." And I am still admiring all your efforts. I exercised twice last week. But have yet to figure out a schedule for me and deal with the kiddos at the same time.

You've gotten farther than I would have. The ONLY time I run is for 5 minutes on the treadmill, and I'm literally watching the readout counting down 'til it's done. "5, 4,3,2,1 -- Hallelujah!"

As you can tell I'm NOT a real runner. :-)

I'm ashamed to say that when I saw the picture before reading, that your other shoe caught your calf (only because I've done that before...i'm a dummie)...but that is too funny....Poor Carter! :)

Oh, Elena! Good for you, though! I wish I could say I was back into the running. I need to be.

And sometimes kids really are dummies! LOL!

PS-- I did Try-it-Tuesday. Really.

Hey Elena! I found you from Jewelle Jones blog! Yes, I'm a stalker. You are hilarious! That is a true battle wound. Hopefully your training will be less painful from here on out!

Now are you sure you just didn't get in Carter's way....

I don't know whether to laugh or worry!!

worry? Why worry? you say....

because I don't like you tattling on yourself so much about....well.....about what people will think of you....calling.Carter.the dreaded slippage of the name....

cringe

there

I said it.

For some reason, this post made you look not so nice! I don't even know why!

Okay, I'm going to switch onto another subject now and pretend I didn't even say what I said.....I hate telling you absolutely everything I think sometimes.

Laugh? because you're so gosh darn funny. You're funny because you're yourself, name caller and all, and funny because LOOK at that scratch! lol....it actually looks rather painful. I just got done with my workout tonight, and my hip flexor just gave me the run around. One minute it was fine and the next minute I could barely walk! For Heaven's sake. Anyway, it was still fun, and I'm glad I did it.

oooh! Ouchie!

Is it wrong for me to laugh that you called Carter a dummy :)? And that the landscape crew heard you? They probably all went home that day and told their families that story :)!

Keep up the awesome work Elena! I'm cheering you on from over here!

Okay. I had to read the other comments to know how everybody reacted and Jennifer P. said just what I wanted to say. :)

The news today said that shin splints are caused from tight calves. They say that if you stretch your calves really well it will cut down on splints.
