Good Grief...what a day!

So Kate decided to add to my Mother's Day by giving me the gift of her spending 4 hours in the E.R. So not cool! The little toot gave us a bit of a scare.

Saturday night she started coughing, so I hooked up the humidifier and put her to bed. She had a very rough night and by Sunday morning her breathing was labored and shallow. We knew we needed to take her in and it is ALWAYS my job in our family to do the doctor bits. However...I HAD to be to church today. Our little primary was singing in sacrament meeting for Mother's Day and I needed to lead them. So Jarom decided he'd take Kate.

After letting our bishop (who happens to also be our pediatrician) know that Jarom wasn't going to be making it to church, he and Kate headed over to the E.R. He texted me all through church (I know, for shame for shame), updating me, and my bishop kept tabs on things for me too.

It was difficult for me to not be with her. Very strange and emotional and probably a good experience for both Jarom and I to be on opposite sides of our normal parenting duties.

They tested for RSV, took chest x-rays, gave her two breathing treatments, and some oral steroids. Her oxygen levels improved fairly quickly but her heart rate was really high so they wouldn't let her leave until it came down. RSV came out negative, nothing wrong in the x-rays, so they are thinking it might possibly have been an asthma attack. We go back in tomorrow for a follow up and hopefully we'll figure out more then. She's still coughing and very raspy, but at least she isn't gasping for breath.

I'll tell you what, even though this was a very scary thing for me, I know that it was pretty minor. I can't even imagine those parents who have REALLY sick kids. My heart hurts for them and I give thanks for the health of my own children.

Sure made for an interesting and memorable Mother's Day, that's for sure.

And a HUGE thank you to Deanna who stepped right in and helped me SO much with primary. I really, really appreciate it!!!

Elena,

I am SO happy that Kate is doing better. I am SO happy that Ryan and I listened to the promptings we had to stay home this weekend, and attend OUR church meetings. We had different plans in mind all week, but by Saturday we had pretty much decided that WE NEEDED to be to church! I KNOW that I didn't help out as much as you give credit, but I'm glad I could be there.

I hope that all goes well with your appointment tomorrow. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! ♥

Sending a prayer your way! I'm so sorry about Kate. I hope you still were able to reap some Mother's Day awards, however!

I'm sure you are the best primary chorister EVER! One of my favorite things is when the primary sings in sacrament. And with 300 kids in our primary, it's a crazy thing!

What a wonder it is when a friend steps in to help unexpectedly! Blessings to your friend, blessings to you, blessings to Kate. Ahhhh. Now, go have a wonderful week!

They keep us on our toes, don't they?? And I always think it's a good idea to reverse parental roles. It's happened alot while Michael has been home.

Oh so scary! I'm glad Kate is doing a tiny bit better. I hope things go well for you today, and they can figure out what is wrong.

I love ya Lenes! Let me know the update with the Dr. Asthma was the 1st thing I thought of when I saw your FB update. What a day you had! I agree with ya, think it was good for you and Jarom switching roles. Everything happens for a reason and look at what an even more compassionate mother you are, thinking of others....

what a stinker! And it's always so true....about kids sicker than your own. It just isn't fair that they have to go through all of that. I always take the kids too, but I think it's because I couldn't handle NOT being there. Like you, that would have driven me crazy. Texting in church huh? I'm sure God understands THIS time :-) So glad she seems to be better. Glad it wasn't all that other stuff, but then asthma is no walk in the park either. Let's just pray it was a one time thing!

YUCK...We have so been there (without so much of the Mother's Day drama ) and couldn't love Bishop more. He is a wonderful doc. Hang in there.

Oh my goodness!

Okay..okay...we both know I'm the freak out girl, and I almost feel that your comforting (or rather..."just calm down") words at the end might have been just for me....but nonetheless!!!!

OH MY GOODNESS!

I'm so glad poor poor Kate is doing okay. To think of anything happening to her....ugh! Yes, thankful for health. Thankful for ER's and medicines. I can't wait to hear what the diagnosis was so as to avoid any more scares in the future.

MAN....and you are queen of medicine. We were JUST talking about breathing issues. I'm so glad Kate was in good hands. Good job Elena and Jarom.

I am so glad to hear she is ok. How scary. I know there is nothing worse than sick kids. I hate that helpless feeling. Well give her a big hug from us.

I can only imagine how hard it would be to be at church on Mother's Day with little primary children singing to their mothers while your baby was on the way to the ER.

Again I am so happy everyone is safe and ok.

Wow, I sure hope that it doesn't turn out to be allergy induced asthma. I can relate to that one! Even the ER experience--so scary. You just can't mess with breathing trouble.
