My Second Set of Hands

I adore Flylady. I consider her a mentor. However, I can't follow her rules. Well, one rule in particular. She insists that you wear shoes; lace up shoes that you can work in. I see the wisdom in this rule and know it would be beneficial if I obeyed it. But you see, I am a barefoot girl to the depths of my core. Cracked heels and blackened, leather soles, that's me. Not only do I love to run around like a heathen with no shoes on, I also depend on my toes...a lot.

My toes are like another set of hands to me. I use them to pick things up off the floor on a regular basis. I'm sure I'd weigh a whole lot less if I actually expended the effort to bend over and pick up that piece of garbage, but nah, I'll stick to my toes pinching it and offering it to my hand.

I didn't realize how much I used my toes until I saw my baby daughter placing one foot on the open dishwasher door. I thought she was just trying to stand on the door to reach something off the counter, until I noticed she was trying to shut the little soap door with her foot. Yep, I do that. I pour in the soap, then scoop the little door up between my toes and shut it. Then with a flick of the foot, I close the whole dishwasher, press start and I'm ready to go.

Why am I going off on this today you ask? Because being the accident prone person I am, I managed to hurt myself with my strange cleaning acrobatic dance. LOL!! Yep, I picked up a piece of garbage with my toes, brought my foot up to my hand, and didn't judge the distance between my hand and foot. I slammed my hand into my foot and jammed my poor little thumb. It's still aching and I'm having a little bit of a hard time typing. Who hurts themselves like that?! Only me folks, only me.

A girl after my own heart. I just can't use my legs as much now that I'm old and stiff. Don't you look forward to that?

Actually, you are not alone in this world. I managed to BREAK my middle finger by kicking it one time. Yeah... you and me, girl...

I know I've said it before, but I LOVE how you don't have a word verification in your comment box. THANK YOU!

hee hee! Have you seen the video of the mom who has no arms and uses her feet to do everything? if not, I'll try to find it and send you a link. It's amazing, and you are probably that talented. As for fly lady... I was very impressed with the little I read of her, but I cannot abide the put shoes on and lace them up. I HATE wearing shoes in my house, especially on my carpet. My shoes are FILTHY!!!

You must have long toes. I have the short, stubby kind and only wish I could pick things up with them.

The last part is just funny - Sorry and hope you are OK :D

I am so jealous, talented toes. Another thing about you that makes me go, wow. I too have the cracked, dirt embedded into the heals, feet all summer long, but I love it. Takes me all winter to grind the callouses off, but it is so worth it.:>

I am dying! I hate shoes, when I try to wear them around my house, my feet feel so hot!! I also use my toes for picking up things, but I am special, because I can pinch people as well! My family hates it, but sometimes you have to show off your talents, and that is all I got:)

I am still laughing, Monkey-Girl, I mean, Elena! Too funny. I use my feet, too, but nothing like you!

I am famous around my house for *injuring* my toes. It's a family joke now. Mr. H has been on the lookout for steel-toed slippers for me for more than a decade.

No, really.

hahaha! I used my toes a lot pregnant, but not so much now. HOWEVER, I was especially laughing at the dishwasher thing. I close mine with a "swish of my foot" too---and notice my kids do it the same way! :)

Hope that finger of yours feels better soon.....I guess we could always cut it off and do a toe transplant :)

I am soooo not a shoe-wearing person! I go outside to get the mail without any shoes on, needless to say, my feet are really yucky! But, I also consider myself talented to have toes to pick thing up with also! I can so relate to you and I think I have also jammed my big toe once whilst picking up an item and "transferring" it.

LOL! You are just SOOOOO MY FRIEND!!!!!! SO MINE! I love having a friend like YOU! You are so absolutely funny and comforting, and JUST YOU!

Mine mine, too. Okay, starting to sound a little weird now, but it's just so nice to have a down to earth person (like you, and like mwah) as a good, good friend.

I'm so glad we're friends.

At least it will keep you limber. Now if only your eyes were good enough that you could see when your feet/fingers were about to collide.

Sorry about the injury....but you crack me up!
