A Night in the Life of a Mother

Had someone seriously told me what motherhood would REALLY be like, I am not so sure I would have signed on for the ride. I remember mom's saying how "EXHAUSTED" they were and I always thought, "I've babysat a gaggle of kids before and it's not THAT bad." But what I didn't understand was the complete lack of sleep mothers really do get. So for all of you non-parents (yet), here's what it's truly like. This was my night last night.

11:30 pm - I go to bed
1:00 am - Kate falls out of bed and wakes screaming
2:00 am - Halle comes in to my bed because she had a bad dream
2:20 am - Carter comes in to my bed too because...well just because
2:25 am - Carter and Halle have a slap fight in my bed because they are "touching" each other
4:00 am - The dog barks because he has to go to the bathroom
4:45 am - Kate wakes crying because her ears are hurting (they are both infected)
6:00 am - Jarom's alarm goes off
6:30 am - I check the news to see if there is school today
7:15 am - Get out of bed to begin a new day

But you know what? I wouldn't trade it for the world!!! :)

Oh, I feel your pain! I should keep track sometime of my nights too. It could provide entertainment later on in life when we'll hopefully get more sleep.

Emma fell out of bed once this week. I jumped out of bed and ran to her room another night b/c I THOUGHT she fell out of bed and was into the vaporizer in her room b/c I heard a bang and then water. Yeah, both babies were sound asleep and I realized that I had heard Lou in the bathtub taking a very late night soak! Dirty trick!

And to think...I'll have more of that to look forward to! :S

YES!!! Last night, Camille would not sleep. I think she had too long of a nap. It was 1:40a.m. when I took her in bed with me, and after I had had enough of "oh, sorry mommy" from feet in the face (among other play time activities), I took her to her own crib at 4:13a.m. I was meaning to only keep her with me for a few minutes and was shocked when I looked at the clock and it had been so long! The bigger shock was my husbands ability to sleep soundly through the whole thing. How do they do that?

Before I read your post this morning, I had just emailed my mom and was whining and asking when she thought I might have a whole night of uninterrupted sleep! I never knew it would become some sort of sacred, infrequent luxury. But it's a little comforting to know we're all in the same boat! :)

oh I feel for ya! We are pretty blessed to have kids that rarely ever wake up (except with vomiting and ear infections!). When they do, they usually end up going to eachother for comfort. But when they DO decide to come into our room--they're like ninjas with those silent feet of theirs!

Hope Miss Kate gets to feeling better!!!

I broke out laughing at 'slap fight'!

I do feel your pain and wish I could be of more help. But they want their own mommy. It will be over all too quickly. That's the other part that moms don't understand until it happens.

Yes, the words "gaggle" and "slap fight" are pretty hillarious! Only a mother can survive a night like that with all the children surviving and still function the next day.

PS thanks for helping me protect my goods...and I am not able to see your goods. (;

Ohhhhh, I am so cranky at night time... my poor kids.

Man, between this and the pee, I'd say you deserve a little sumptin' for yourself!

Oh I hear you!! I wish there was no school again for you...hopefully you'll get some time to nap today! That's why I figure we'll just have as many kids right now as possible since I'm already use to getting no sleep-then one day we'll be done with that jazz! And although it is extremely exhausting..there is nothing else I would rather be doing and just like you, I wouldn't trade it for the world. One day we'll wish there was a tiny little body to come crawl in bed with us!!!

I agree with Emily-- you need at least a pedicure or something. Dang kids. I just have Gord who likes to get up and crawl into bed with us and it drives me insane. You get the patient mother award for the year!
